Because of its size and historic use, Inchmore represents the kind of island that shows how people have lived on Lough Ree’s islands for centuries.

THE BLACK ISLANDS

Recently acquired by the NPWS, the Black Islands are designated as a protected breeding ground for wading birds.

HARE ISLAND

The second largest island on Lough Ree, Hare island was St. Ciaran’s home for some time, where the ruins of his monastery can still be found.

RINDOON

A medieval walled town on the shores of Lough Ree – surrounded by an Abbey, an ancient Mill and flocks of fluffy sheep.
